In this tutorial, you will learn how to do Warrior 2 or Virabhadrasana 2 in sanskrit. This is a basic yoga pose found in many different types of yoga classes and is great to build strength and flexibiliity. Here, Jennifer talks about "best practices" you can do to help keep your back safe and pain free, and to help open up your hips.
Key points to remember in this Yoga Basics How To Do Virabhadrasana 2 Tutorial:
1) Your front foot is pointing forward
2) Your back foot is parallel to the back of the mat, running perpendicular to the front.
3) You work your feet to have heel to arch alignment, but that's ok if that doesn't happen today, give it time.
4)Your front knee is bent to 90 degrees
5)Your back leg is straight
6)Your hips are open.
7) Hold your shoulders down and away from the ears.
8) Your arms are reaching in opposite directions
9) Chest is proud but don't stick your ribs out.
10) Top of the head to the sky
11) Your belly is IN (A LOT)
12) Your tail bone is lengthening down
13) Gaze is over your front middle finger
Remember, always keep your stomach muscles engaged and try not to tilt that tail bone out. (this cue can reduce back pain) This pose can really get your internal fire (agni) burning! You're buiding strength in the front leg, glutes, abs, & shoulders. You're creating length in the hips & calves.
